Samsung made Galaxy S4 with its TouchWiz screen is a very familiar phone. The phone is very popular. Google has decided to play with its popularity and has released a special Google edition of it. So, here is a new Google edition phone like the Nexus series named "Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition". You may wonder what’s new in SGS4 Google Edition. To learn more you have to read this post till end. Let us begin our journey, what do you say?

If you like this post then do not forget to share it with your friends. Spread the knowledge and let your friends learn about it. If you also have something to say, there is a comments section for you.

Look

There is nothing new in the Play Edition of Galaxy S4 from exterior design. The phone looks same as the TW version. The look, as most of the users are saying, is not cool. Actually, the feel of the device, instead of high price, is quiet cheap. The use of bad plastic destroys the overall image of its being a "premium" phone. The only difference is the absence of any career company logo on the backside. The CPU is the same old Qualcomm 1.9GHZ dual core with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage.

Rating of SGS4 Play Edition

4 stars for Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition

Performance

The G edition is faster than the TouchWiz version. You can feel it while playing with it. Though, benchmark scores are similar, the apps run much smoother on the Google Edition.

Samsung TouchWiz is a real battery eater. That is why the Google Play edition limits worthless threads on background. It increases battery life up to 20 %.

G edition is the Google phone like the Nexus series. So, you will get Android on its purest form. There is no unwanted clutter of apps. No Samsung made bloatwares and worthless “features” are here to complicate the user’s experiences. The phone is really a joy to use. You can feel the power of its hardware by using this model.

Camera

We know that Android stock camera app is very basic. But unlike earlier models, Google here improved the UI and gave it some good functionality. The TouchWiz skinned version’s camera has many more preset modes than that of the pure one. But the photo quality is same as well as the video. After taking some snaps with it Engadget has found that the camera can shoot photos with “accurate color balance and exposure, with tons of detail” and with modest dynamic range.

The camera has a new cropped viewfinder. You shall not get the accurate frames of a photo due to it. The setting menu is designed like an arc and is different from the wheel of the TouchWiz.

More Memory

Because of the clean interface and lack of lots of pre installed apps, the Google version of the Galaxy S4 does not take much of the RAM all time. The original SGS4 takes more amount of internal memory for system files. Due to its lack of unwanted features. the Google model gives the user more free space. It is a very good feature which can not be ignored.

There is only the 16 GB model of the Play Edition. If you want the 32 GB or 64 GB edition, then you are out of luck. But you can enhance the memory by adding a microSD card up to 64 GB.

The key layouts and functions are different on G Galaxy 4. There is no recent apps button. The menu button has that functionality added. If you long press the menu key, the “Google Now” app will be launched. To saw the recent apps list you need to double tap the menu button.

Google Wallet

Beside Google Now, this model has also Google Wallet. The skinned version has no “Wallet”. This Wallet app can store different type of cards virtually like the credit card, debit card and gift card. On the supported payment terminals, this phone can be tapped to pay the bill. Everything will be done using NFC. Unfortunately, there is no Google Wallet support outside USA.But you do not have to worry about it because this phone is not available outside USA till date.

The last but the most important difference between those two models of SGS 4 is the price. The Google edition is unlocked and so is pricier then the locked devices. The Google Play edition is priced at $649, which, in my opinion, is a bit stiff. But the phone has the capability of evoking some new and fresh feelings.
